This month’s safari property focus is on Setari Camp, a brand-new tented accommodation situated in a 50000ha private concession within the highly productive panhandle region of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

Setari is Setswana for ‘Tree’ and the camp has been thoughtfully designed to integrate the giant riverine forest and palms trees which dominate the island upon which the camp sits.

Main camp
Located north-west of the Okavango Delta water system, Setari is found at the point where the main artery of the Okavango begins to fan out in the Delta.

Winding wooden walkways, high above the ground, interlink the tents, dining and sitting areas, pool and gym, creating a massive tree-house from which to marvel at the panoramic views over the watery channels and papyrus beds beyond.
Rooms
The tents are elegantly furnished with comfort in mind and each have extra length beds, super-sized mosquito net, desk, sofa, fan, lights and handy plug points.

All rooms have spacious en-suite bathrooms with separate toilet, open-air shower and modern free-standing bath.

Guests can make the most of the breath-taking Delta views from their suite’s private deck. The family tent accommodates families of up to four in two adjoining tents, each with its own bathroom and outside shower.

There is also large decked area for private dinners in-between the family tents.
Activities & Wildlife
Setari has three especially adapted motor boats designed for maximum viewing as well as three mokoros (traditional dug-out canoes) that are part of the full, authentic Botswana safari experience.

The island is home to the rare and regal Sitatunga antelope as well as bushbuck, a resident leopard, hippo, baboons and a lone hyena. Helicopter rides are available on request and are a fantastic way to get a better grasp of the enormity of the Delta landscape. Guests should look out for elephants roaming around the watery floodplains.

Guests can take to the bush by foot on neighbouring islands – a boat ride away. The area is a birder’s paradise, boasting a significant number of migrant birds, aquatic birds, raptors, a seasonal heronry as well as the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl.
Children of 12 years and older are allowed on all activities. However, the camp will accept children of six years and older on request.
