Dinaka Camp

GLIMPSING ANCIENT COMMUNITIES

A visit to Africa is not complete without engaging in the world of Africa’s ancient people. The Bushmen in the Botswana Kalahari area practice a way of life that is as old as the gnarled baobab trees. Dinaka Camp, set in a private concession on the northern boundaries of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, is a highly recommended place to meet the Kalahari Bushmen as part of a 3 night stay here. The concession is the home of the black maned lion and the eland so combine your game drives with a Bushman experience for a memorable safari. Inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve itself, we recommend Kalahari Plains and Tau Pan Camp where you can also engage in a Bushman experience.

New on the circuit and one camp to watch is Bushman Plains. The camp is owned and operated by Bushman brothers so you are immersed in Bushman culture from the moment you arrive. You can game drive; you can head into the shallow waters by dugout canoe; you can track on foot with these expert guides.

If you are into the warrior races, then consider the Maasai of East Africa. One of our favourite camps is Tangulia Mara. Owners and staff are Maasai themselves and apart from a thrilling location for big game, this is the pace to visit and interact with the Maasai at one of the Mara villages. For those visiting East Africa, The Mara blends in perfectly with an extension into the Serengeti in Tanzania or the gorilla forests of Bwindi in Uganda.
