Serengeti Safari Camp

HONING IN ON HERDS

Large meandering packs of pachyderms are not unusual to see in Botswana. And Hwange National Park too for that matter.  The best areas to see elephant and buffalo in large herds are the areas of the Linyanti (Linyanti Bush Camp is a good choice) or the southern Delta. Mma Dinare or Rra Dinare Camps are a good mid-range option. Qorokwe, a superb new addition to the area, would be perfect if your budget allows. From the main deck of one of our favourite camps, Hyena Pan, you don’t have to go far to see elephant herds wallowing in the water as you dine or paddle in the small guest pool.

The impressive wildebeest migration between Kenya’s Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti is a bucket list experience for many. Whatever you do, avoid the crowds of Central Serengeti and head to the south in calving season (December to March) or The North (September and October). The light mobile camps are ideal for you to follow the herds (they usually move every couple of months) and we would go for Serengeti Safari Camp or Mara River Kati Kati.

And if migrations are on your dream list of experiences, the zebra migrations in Botswana (January – March) would be best seen from the fabled Jack’s Camp.
